The Demographics of Hillside

Hillside School opened in 1984 as a five room school and enrolled 110 students. With subsequent renovations and additions, the student population peaked at 385 students in the late 90’s. In September 2013, Hillside began a new phase. It became Hillside Traditional Academy enrolling approximately 290 students within the structures of a traditional model. The current student population is over 400 and growing.

Diversity and Respect

Hillside’s hardworking and knowledgeable staff is supported by many committed parents who provide opportunities for our students to excel in all areas. Like many schools in Mission, our school has a multicultural flavour to it and our student body includes many ESL students, International Students and Aboriginal students. All partner groups at Hillside act in a respectful and empathetic manner that focuses on inclusion and citizenship.

Hillside is well known for its weekly assemblies. All students have the opportunity to use their presentation skills and display their learning in unique ways. Students lead the assembly and play a major role in the planning of the program. The assemblies also provide a great vehicle for discussing and reinforcing our Code of Conduct and socially responsible behaviour. Parents are always welcome and many attend these Friday morning weekly events.

Community Partnerships

Many groups work very hard to make Hillside “A Great Place to Be.” Our dedicated PAC group spearheads many initiatives. Some of them include purchasing Literacy Resource materials, Math & Science equpiment, SMART boards and projectors in every classroom, arts performances, sports equipment and a new playground.

Our recylcing program is also recognized by the Mission Communities in Bloom Committee.
